Welcome Home
There is something deeply meaningful about the work of hands.
Hands that prepare food.
Hands that tend bees.
Hands that preserve the harvest.
Hands that care for people.
For more than two decades, my life has been rooted in the simple, practical work that nourishes a community.
I am a Certified Holistic Health Coach, an herbalist, a natural beekeeper, and a lifelong student of traditional food preparation. Through In the Kitchen with Texas, I teach people how to return to the wisdom of the kitchen, learning the skills that allow them to cook nourishing food, preserve the harvest, and take an active role in their own health.
A Life of Serving People
For over 26 years, I have worked as a barber, and for the past six years I have owned and operated my own small-town barbershop. Day after day, people sit in my chair and we talk about life about work, family, health, and the everyday challenges that come with living well.
Over time, those conversations revealed something powerful: many people deeply want to live healthier lives, but they often feel overwhelmed about where to begin.
That realization eventually led me to pursue certification as a Holistic Health Coach, where I learned how to guide individuals toward practical, sustainable health changes.
Today, I work one-on-one with clients to help them clarify their personal health goals and build a step-by-step framework that supports those goals. Together we explore strengths, identify challenges, and create a realistic path forward. Coaching sessions can take place in person or through video chat, making it possible to support people wherever they are.
Teaching the Lost Skills of the Kitchen
Alongside health coaching, one of my greatest passions is food preservation and traditional kitchen skills.
I teach local classes where students learn how to:
- safely can fruits and vegetables
- prepare and preserve pickles
- make jams and jellies
- practice pressure canning
- store and protect seasonal harvests
These skills once lived in nearly every household. Today, many people are rediscovering them—not only because they are practical, but because they reconnect us to the rhythms of real food and seasonal living.
Preserving food is more than a technique. It is a way of honoring the harvest and ensuring that good food is available long after the growing season has passed.
Helping People Use the Tools They Already Own
Many kitchens are filled with tools that people rarely use to their full potential.
Blenders.
Food processors.
Small appliances designed to make cooking easier.
Part of my work involves teaching individuals how to confidently use these tools, transforming them from occasional gadgets into everyday allies in preparing nourishing meals.
When people understand their tools, cooking becomes simpler, faster, and far more enjoyable.
A Life Rooted in Natural Living
Outside the kitchen, I also spend time practicing the traditions that have always supported healthy living.
I am an herbalist, studying plants and their traditional uses.
I am a natural beekeeper, caring for bees and the role they play in our ecosystem and food systems.
These practices remind me that health is never isolated—it grows out of our connection to land, food, community, and the natural world.
Why I Do This Work
I believe good health begins with simple, practical skills.
Cooking real food.
Understanding ingredients.
Preserving the harvest.
Learning how to care for our bodies with intention.
Through teaching, coaching, and writing, my goal is to help people rediscover the confidence that comes from knowing how to care for themselves and their families through the everyday practices of the kitchen.
Because when people learn these skills, something remarkable happens.
The kitchen becomes more than a place where food is made.
It becomes a place where health, tradition, and community are quietly restored.
